Stanley Spencer museum, Cookham

Off on a wet ban k holiday, that most British of things to look at one of the most British of post war British painters – Stanley Spencer.

Probably best known for his re-playing of biblical events in the oh so slightly twee village of Cookham, his paintings have a sly humour and a strange spiritaulaity which is both a little mad and strangely contemplative.

The museum is tiny, but perfectly  formed, with a collection of larger and smaller works, including the huge & unfinished Christ preaching at Henley

and some images to give a flavour of the work
