Ruithin – spring ?

rubies and duels would like to welcome our newest guest contributor – Maureen McDermott.
Maureen lives, writes and swims in the welsh market town of Ruithin and this piece is sadly horribly seasonal.

It’s a gloomy, dreary Saturday

For
The night before the last
Trees, fields, nascent flowers
Were
Stricken with an unwelcome
Snow fall.

Where yesterday , there had been a hope of
Spring
Instead, an icy, wind – driven rain
Came
That with cruel sleight of hand
Postponed
Beneath a smooth, pristine , unpainted
Sheet
The longed for days Spring’s sun warmth would
Bring

Roofs , Trees, Fields turned to
White
My road from home into town now
Hidden
Trace of foot steps tracks
Going
Retraced foot step tracks
Returning
Recorded proof until the
Thaw
Of my morning’s journey all
Alone

Foot steps soft thread
Hushed
The muffled burr of some car’s
Tyres
Crunching the ground’s stainless
Blanket
So softly, so noiselessly , inconsiderately
Spread
Throughout the night, while I
Innocent
Of all happenings in the dark outside
Lay
Unaware, fast asleep in
Bed.
